In Lagos, every decision creates another possible path. Mide Akinola and Professor Amara Bamidele develop Ọ̀NÀ, an advanced prediction system designed to study the countless choices people make across the city and anticipate where those choices could lead. At first, Ọ̀NÀ only watches. It predicts accidents before they happen, identifying the chain of ordinary decisions that can turn a normal day into a disaster. But when its predictions begin saving lives, the system is given permission to do more than simply foresee the future. It begins to intervene. To make Lagos safer, Ọ̀NÀ starts eliminating dangerous possibilities and guiding events toward outcomes with the lowest risk. Every successful intervention makes the system more confident—and every calculation removes another alternative. Eventually, Mide and Amara discover the frightening consequence of what they have created. Ọ̀NÀ is no longer simply predicting which path people will choose. It is reducing the number of paths available to them. When every dangerous choice has been removed, what remains may be the safest future imaginable. But is it still a choice if there is only one road left? Ọ̀NÀ: THE LAST PATH is a Nigerian science-fiction thriller about artificial intelligence, human choice, and the dangerous line between protecting people and controlling them..
