Venezuela is a country where, by good fortune, people arrived from everywhere. And that, though it isn't always said, is a blessing. Because they didn't come empty-handed… they came with overflowing souls. They brought customs wrapped in newspaper. Stories that smelled of firewood and open courtyards. Recipes that tasted of childhood and wet earth. Saints on worn prayer cards. Superstitions sewn into the hems of nostalgia. Songs that wept and laughed all at once. They taught us ways of loving we hadn't known. Ways of grieving that taught us to comfort differently. Their silences too, their sorrows wrapped in cloths of hope. And their longing to put down roots in borrowed soil that soon became their own. And we, with our hearts on the front porch and the little cup of coffee always ready, welcomed them the way you welcome family: with a set table, a long embrace, and genuine curiosity. In Venezuela, no one asks where you come from, but what you bring to the table. If it’s a story, a recipe, or a rhythm, if it’s ingenuity and a will to work, you already have a seat and a second round of coffee.
